Through a combination of hand-sewn textiles and paints, Maria A. Guzmán Capron joins together an array of patterns and striking colors to fashion bodily forms. Merging figuration with abstraction, these works explore cultural hybridity, pride, and the competing desires to assimilate and to be seen. The artist recognizes the challenges of toggling between various cultures and geographies. Her multilayered textile works emphasize that we consist of several identities, some that we repress and some that we exalt.

I'm motivated to convey the essence of this artwork onto canvas because I'm enthralled by it. The imagined piece combines paint and textiles, enticing me on a creative journey. I'll methodically weave together various materials - metals, fabrics, woods, plastics, and paper - to create textures.

I'll blur medium boundaries in order to introduce controlled chaos. The fusion draws the eye in and crafts a story that resonates on a multiple plane. The light on metal, the touch of cloth, and the warmth of wood all combine to embody the inspiration.

This encourages visitors to look beyond the canvas. Layers add depth to the work, encouraging interaction and conversation. Tactile elements entice viewers to interact with art in novel ways, pique their interest.

I learn balance, contrast, and material interplay as I thread each fragment. Stitches reflect the strands of my journey, combining various elements.

I'm both a learner and a maker here, learning through stitches, strokes, and material selection. The canvas becomes a domain of creativity and introspection. This is my homage: a translated artistic trip, a symphony woven, an invitation to start on an artistic voyage.
